I'm Sara LaBrash: a teacher, former civil (environmental) engineer, avid traveler, and enthusiastic walker.

I grew up in the British Columbia interior, in Vanderhoof, paddling, skiing, and hiking through the region.  I attended school post secondary school at the University of Alberta in pursuit of a Bachelors of Civil Engineering with specialization environmental.  I spent some time in Central Alberta, working on some large municipal infrastructure projects.  My predominate work was on the Shirley McClellan Regional Water System and the Parsons Creek development.  The work was intriguing and continuously challenging.

A move out to British Columbia provided opportunity for travel and some courses at the University of British Columbia before returning to consulting engineering in Red Deer, Surrey, and, finally, in downtown Vancouver.  My final engineering position was at a firm that worked on mining and hydropower projects and I provided support for the environmental regulatory processes.  It became clear that I wanted to teach, so I quit my job and volunteered in a couple of local secondary schools.

The time I spent in the classroom enlivening and fulfilling; I appreciated the honesty of the students and framing that could happen in a school setting.  After completion some outstanding courses for eligibility in the UBC Education program, I enrolled in the program and am currently happily on my way to becoming a certified teacher.

I am continuing to seek - understanding, experiences, opportunities - however, I believe that I have found the optimal forum for my days.
